This panel discussion brought together experts and practitioners in the field of Climate and Disaster Risk Finance and Insurance to explore the Global Shield’s potential for more coherent, systematic and sustained financial protection in climate-vulnerable countries. Various efforts have been launched and are still ongoing across the InsuResilience Global Partnership to enable fast and reliable financial assistance of climate-affected communities. However, countries and people still face significant barriers to in accessing solutions and the protection gap remains vast.
To start off the session, Theodore Talbot from the Centre for Disaster Protection gave an overview of the in-country consultation process envisioned under the Global Shield and shared some reflections on the opportunities and challenges of this approach. After that, the panellists engaged in a vivid discussion on what it takes to unlock the full potential of Climate and Disaster Risk Finance and Insurance Solutions moving forward with the Global Shield.
