Check out my comments on ABC7 in response to Chevron’s announcement that it is moving its headquarters from San Ramon to Houston, the center of the U.S. oil industry.

This announcement is not surprising. Chevron has been making this move for several years by shifting its corporate employees from San Ramon to Houston.

Chevron has already downsized in San Ramon where they only have 2000 employees, compared to 7000 in Houston. Chevron announced that its CEO and Vice-Chair will soon move to Texas to co-locate with other management who already live and work there.

As Chevron itself has said, this change does not impact the Richmond Refinery operations, nor does it impact the taxes they pay to Contra Costa County and the City of Richmond. Chevron will remain the County’s largest property taxpayer.

California's high tech clean energy is the future; Texas' fossil fuel economy is the past.

Governor Newsom’s office stated: “This announcement is the logical culmination of a long process that has repeatedly been foreshadowed by Chevron. We’re proud of California’s place as the leading creator of clean energy jobs, a critical part of our diverse, innovative, and vibrant economy.”
