There was a corrupt politician who would not pay up when the pied piper of Hamelin came to collect his due; one thousand guilders for ridding the town of a plague of rats.
The consequence was that he separated a whole generation of parents and grand parents and great grand parents from their children and plunged them into terrible grief.
The children all heard the wonderful music played by the pied piper and followed him, even a little lame boy but he couldn't keep up, and was left outside of the cleft in a mountainside that closed itself before he could enter.
Sadly for him, because in that music played by the pied piper, he heard that following it, he would find a cure for his malady and live a life with the other children in the midst of a beautiful garden.
If only we could understand or neutralize the rats that led to this cat-astrophe.
