I have heard that many families invested into this market, mostly involving this company, due to it being supposedly “safer” than the Chinese stock market.

This is going to hurt a lot of families badly. My condolences to them

This should also mention the bond agreement for CNY bonds, but the lack of agreement for foreign currency denominated bonds. In other words: China's bond holders may get paid, while foreign bond holders get little to nothing.

Its default should notch down China's sovereign rating as well and if that happens, alongwith Yuan suddenly depreciating, its ripples will be felt in the US bond market.
