Great video Roger, I encounter young folks starting out (plumbing) who are often very eager to work and more that happy to put the effort in. I've realized that often all I need to do is give someone the chance. None of us were born knowing are trade, we all had to learn it somewhere.

There's a lot of snobbery aimed at construction workers. That we're uneducated or somehow beneath other professions. Fact is, some of the smartest people I've ever met are builders/ construction workers. We might not have read the classics but we're constantly problem solving, applying mathematics and geometry, working stuff out and juggling multiple connected factors at any given time. It's a never ending learning process plus it can be physically brutal. I honestly believe it'd take longer, and require a greater IQ, to become a good builder than a good doctor or lawyer. Sometimes when I tell people I'm a roofer they react like I've just admitted to being a career criminal. It's why I hate those programmes on the BBC about cowboy tradesmen. When are they going to make a program where Matt Alright goes after cowboy bankers, journalists and legal professionals? It's middle class snobbery.

After doing my double length garage floor a few years ago i can vouch that it definitely isn't as easy as it looks - had to take the following day off to recover! He's got a hard life ahead of him. I hope he gets the reputation and reward he deserves.
