If anyone is interested: The sound of the orcs marching was recorded at stadium in Wellington, NZ during a match I was at. At half time Peter Jackson, unexpectedly, walked on to the field with a microphone and told everyone that he was there to record sound for his Lord of the Rings movies. His instructions to the crowd were simple, stamp as loud as you can in time with the beat. And so we did. 30, 000 people all stamping their feet at Westpac Stadium and the sound was recorded and then used in the Helm's Deep scenes. The energy was unreal.

I never had that much of a problem with the cgi orcs in the Hobbit but man when put right next to LOTR scenes it really shows how much better the practical ones look

Easterlings are so badasses. The armor, the chants, the march... epic.

I love the confidence of the orcs. They are ready to fight anytime. They are fearless warriors than men.

the scenes from the hobbit were definitely awesome, but my favourite is the isen march on helms deep, with the rain pouring and everything. complete perfection

The orcs are actually really well organized & disciplined when at war, despite their nature of inhumane barbarism.

Absolute perfection. If you listen to this full volume on your headphones the minute you wake up, you will seize the day.

The contrast between the Uruk hai and ALL THE OTHER orcs is so ... vast.
An important detail i just noticed was The Uruk'Hai are the only Orks not marching to a Drum beat becasue they are so diciplined! they don't need one to time their march.
think about the implications.
They also don't do any march chanting or other of the usual noises you would associate with an army on the march.
When they do its becasue it's part of their strategy to rattle the enemy, they approach helms deep in silence aside from the clanking of weapons and armor and foot falls.
And frankly it makes them even scarier. the Ukruk Hai are ELITE SHOCKTROOPERS, are true army maching in lockstep.

They form very diciplined ranks, have effective complex strategies and tactics, superior equipment and specialized troops for specific jobs. they seem to intuitively know exactly what to do. without any officer bellowing orders or keeping them in line.
The other orcs are mostly depending on numbers and viciousness.

It amazes me that the people of middle earth fought these creatures for thousands of years.

I love tolkien for showing us his world. Its one of the best things i have seen in life.

You gotta admit, orcs have style when it comes to marching and shouting war cries, orcs are pretty badass.
