For fans of the radio program "A Prairie Home Companion," recent news about Garrison Keillor marks the end of an historic run. This coming Saturday's broadcast from the Hollywood Bowl will be his last. Why is he leaving the show that he made into an institution? He talked that decision with Jane Pauley.

I will really miss this show, I always felt I was in some mythological version of America, a better place with humor, tolerance and wonderful stories, music and comedy and satire. Loved it.

Absolutely LOVED PHC. Garrison is, quite simply, an American national treasure. You will be missed, sir!

What an unbelievably talented man. Will miss you always. Spent many of Sundays rolling down the interstate in my semi truck listening to his show I would actually leave home early to make sure I didn't miss it.

I was heartbroken to hear this, but I knew it was coming.  I've been listening to PHC for as long as it's been around... most of my life.  He is a national treasure.

His humor....pure gold. It's all in the pacing and delivery, haha. Love his Lutheran humor....growing up in the upper midwest AND in an ELCA Lutheran church as a kid...DEAD ON, haha.

Thank you, Garrison Keillor, for thanking a teacher, for recognizing the huge role she played. And, Jane Pauley--she only makes it look effortless. To secure a great interview like this, takes skill. Enormous empathy. They're both leaders in their field. Both, my generation, I am proud to say.

"A Prairie Home Companion", along with Garrison Keillor was truly a sanctuary of warmth situated in the cudgels of our hearts at a time when blatant, crass exploitation predominated the instruments of mass culture. It, and Mr. Keillor as the master of ceremony, will be truly missed.

this breaks my heart. i never miss it, and listen over and over again. i love to listen on sunday mornings with my coffee. it is my church and i love garrison keillor....prairie home companion is not only about the midwest, in my opinion....because the basis of the stories and the real humanness of the characters cross over many boundries. i will continue to watch all the videos and will miss him whole heartedly. i better see if i can get these books on amazon. i have a huge gap to fill....

I'm glad I got to see him once live, now that feels...like I was a part of history or a memento of an earlier culture....I will miss and treasure his live performances and how our family would listen to it over dinner or doing the dishes after

Love Garrison and his show. It brought a feeling of warmth when you accidentally found it on the radio dial. Not sure what he did, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't anything most of us haven't done.

I listened to him on a Saturday night, usually...I'm gen x...lived on a farm...I actually listened to him on a powerless radio station...I will never forget him, obviously still influencing my life, to this day!

My dad started listening to Garrison back in the early 80s. He grew up in Wisconsin in the 50s & 60s and midwest culture is nostalgic. PHC is part of Sunday afternoons of my childhood and into adulthood. Now, that my dad is gone, listening to PHC is just comforting and gave me an appreciation for the Lutheran guilt and Bertha's Kitty Boutique, Dusty & Lefty, Ketchep

I had listened to A Prairie 🏡 Companion since 1986. I was, and maybe still am, a peculiar immigrant. I took to this radio program like a duck to water. Later on, in the
early 2000s I think, I read an article by the great Dave Barry(Miami Herald's regular edition, not his regular column at the time), on Keilor's amazing talent.and body of work; 24 hours later, Mr. Barry walked in to purchase a pair of patent leather shoes for his tuxedo since he was part of a team of writers hired to write at the Oscars. I mentioned how much I had enjoyed his article and we talked about Keilor, briefly but with deep admiration. It was a very special moment for me. The closest I've ever come to true American intellect.
