The Beatles Anthology Project and Now And Then | The Full Story

Even before the Beatles broke up in 1970, there was considerable interest in telling their story. Hunter Davies published in 1968 the first authorized biography of the band, written with the full cooperation of the Beatles but with a series of restrictions: he was forbidden to talk about drugs, Brian Epstein's homosexuality or the Beatles' stories with groupies during their touring years. Once the group was split up, a great number of formats such as magazines, books, documentaries, fiction films and even musicals tried to tell the band's story, but in search of an official version since 1970 Neil Aspinall, a personal friend of the band and director of apple corps, formalized his attempt to launch a documentary of the beatles. For years he had collected concert footage, interviews and television appearances of the beatles from around the world, and with a gigantic archive behind him he began work on "The Long and Winding Road".

"I AND THE THREE OTHER FORMER BEATLES HAVE PLANS TO STAGE A REUNION CONCERT"
Sadly, these words will be etched in my memory forever.
We can be sure now that the reunion WOULD have happened, one day.

I'm glad they had footage of Paul, George & Ringo in 1995 for Now & Then & the doco is very informative & heartfelt & John's voice coming thru those speakers, so ethereal. This last song deserves many accolades coz of the myriad of time spent to finish it & now it's done it's been viewed & bought by millions. Long live The Beatles.❤️🎸

How great would it be if we get an expanded edition of the Anthology albums and series in 2025?
They can make like an extra chapter that highlights the recording of Real Love and Now and Then (and other stuff that was part of the bonus disc).
Another chapter can be made that shows Beatles related stuff from the past 30 years since Anthology came out, like the LOVE show from Cirque de Soleil, The Beatles: Rock Band game and the Get Back series.

To hear John's Voice on Now and Then was emotional.
Also George's acoustic and his passing as well pulls heart strings. ❤️
The Beatles still set the Bar.

It's a tragedy that John died how and when he did. Really sad.
The remaininng living Beatles turned lemons into lemonade in finishing those songs. Imagine all those songs we'll never hear that John would've written. R.I.P.

Watch the documentary: 'The U.S v.s John Lennon'.

I have the 90’s era tv documentary Anthology on DVD, and I’ve always loved it. I can’t understand why it isn’t available to stream anywhere. I don’t know who has the rights to it, but please make it available for streaming. 🙏

There is a lot of indication that when the Beatles broke up, John and Paul didn't leave on the best of terms, so it's a pretty interesting story that John wrote Now and Then because of regret on how things ended up with Paul, and later Paul wanted to finish the song because of he felt the same

6:40. George, clean shaven and hair much shorter than it was in the Free As A Bird video, which suggests how long it took them to finally get back

The beautiful background story the Beatles Anthology is more interesting than expected: not many know or considered that the project was mainly created by footage and audio material donated by Beatles fans! Starting from the Quarrymen recording of the Fete concert, to the Love Me Do acetate with Pete Best found on George Martin's attic!
What's weird of the "new songs" is that they were bootlegged long time before the Anthology. Real Love for example was the closing track of the documentary Imagine from 1989, and the demo appears in the soundtrack too.

I born in Liverpool in 1967 I grew up on the Wirral I'll never forget the morning in December 1980 when the news broke of John Lennon's Murder it was school day I went to private boys school nr Chester and everyone was shocked including the teachers believe it or not. But what I didn't know is that John was coming home to to try and reform The Beatles, I knew he and Yoko had bought a home in Caldy on the Wirral and were planning to relocate there he'd had enough of being followed by the security forces in the US. Just think how good the new music would of been

Now would be a good time to revisit Free as a bird and real love using the AI technology like how it was done with Now and Then.

Martin said he didn't want to work with Lennons voice, not because of his going deaf.
Paul had more power as the leader of the band since 1967.

Dare I say this, but towards the end of the 60's I think that Paul McCartney became the group's strongest songwriter. However the John Lennon songs 'Across The Universe', 'Revolution' and 'Come Together' show strong songwriting ability.
