Zimbabwe's High Court ruled that a decision by President Emmerson Mnangagwa to extend the tenure of the country's chief justice by five more years was illegal as it violated the constitution. The High Court ruled that Luke Malaba ceased being chief justice at midnight on Friday.

Zimbabwean journalist, Hopewell Chin'ono sheds more light on the story.

ZANU never ceases to amaze us, kicks of a dying horse.

The centre in ZANU PF and ANC is not holding. Politics of removing and appointing individuals is useless and certainly going to land Africa in deep crisis. Politics is principle.

We have been hearing that the Zimbabwean Judiciary is captured, only now to hear that it is actually the magistrate court that is partisan. I think that the SABC has to be advised that in Zimbabwe we have a rogue opposition movement that acts like a rebel force, and this guy Chin'ono is an opposition activist, not a journalist. We do have state institutions that are partisan, unfortunately, but the MdcA and their activists like Chin'ono are not to be relied on to get a balanced view on what is happening in Zimbabwe
