Gutted to know all of this is completely gone now after the floods from Hurricane Helene today. 💔 Thankful you took this video a year ago.

Nice tour of Chimney Rock, Timothy! They have a lot of shops and restaurants there. That river walk and rocky river is beautiful. I enjoyed listening to the Appalachian music you included in this video. I forgot to mention the music on yesterday's Lake Lure video, as I enjoyed that, too. The music is a fantastic addition to your videos. Stay safe out there, Timothy!

I’m still in shock with what happened to this wonderful gem chimney rock village. I hope they will rebuild, my heart breaks for this place.

Glad you got to see and document Chimney Rock while it was still there. Much of the village was washed away by Hurricane Helene today.

9 years old back in 1969' I lived at lake lure.... up on a high hill side over looking the town straight across to the rock' back then it was a summer time tourist town (wide open 24/7)
Winter time it was a ghost town' completely empty except for the people who lived in the area' only 2 small supply stores about 10 miles apart from each other open' only carried basic supplies hunting/fishing' you could drive for miles and not see no signs of life except for deer/bear' etc wildlife.
My dad had took on the job remolding/repainting the lake lure inn.... winter job ready for the summer time reopening for tourist season. I'd catch the school bus 4:30 am ride for miles before the next stop to pick up other kids then on to school green wood elementary in the the next town over.... Forest City' dropped back off at home 6:30 pm nearing dark again.... work up to 12:00 at times 1:00-2:00 am helping remodel the inn. It was cold cold cold' the wind coming off the lake working out side.
The whole time I lived there I never got to hike up to the rock and now that I'm older disabled.... regret I didn't and will never get the chance to.

I remember as a kid, driving though here with the parents and seeing the mountain. Really glad you got to document this and thank you for the memories. 9.29.24 and Hurricane Helen has devastated the NC area, including wiping our Chimney Rock with flooding. Please remember our neighbors and help them when you can.

Our granddaughter worked as a waitress at the River Watch Restaurant until shortly after she graduated from high school in 2018. Our daughter-in-law worked across the street at the shop that sold gemstones and other related items. She worked there into 2019 when she had to stop working because of health problems. We enjoyed visiting Chimney Rock and the Flower Bridge.

Looking at video tours of the places ive been hearing about and seeing in other post helene videos, that were destroyed. My family had been around to some places down there long time ago, and i visited Asheville with a friend as we came back from a wedding heading back to Indiana. I really wanted to go back and actually live around that area as i just really got attracted to it, although that region is my favorite place, the Appalachia, Blue Ridge, etc as my family did a lot of camping trips down there in different places and i tried to take trips down when i could but i just didn't have enough time to get away for years.
But i guess i wont ever get to see a lot of those places as they previously existed now as theyve been wrecked. Its horrible for the people as it is even more difficult to rebuild and start over in these current times.
May all things improve and go the best way.

From about where the video started to the 2 minute mark is gone as of hurricane Helene september 2024, as well as other buildings further down. They say about 60% of the town is gone. I was so saddened to hear this. Chimney Rock holds so many memories for me as a kid on vacations to the place with my folks. I'm almost 60 now and use to love going into the shops there. It tears my heart out to see it gone. Prayers to the victims of this horrible storm.

One of my favorite areas on the planet. My ex wife's family is from near there, and we'd go visit them several times a year. I never wanted to leave. We'd go in the summer and then go back in the fall when they cut the sorghum and made syrup. Started going there in the early 80's and continued until about 10 years ago. Her family and the locals were some of the most down to earth and nicest folks you could ever meet. Her uncle, Kelly, ran a hardware store in the Bill's Creek community for several years until he passed away. The last time I went up there was to attend his funeral. The local fire department put us up for free in a huge A frame house near Lake Lure.
Chimney Rock Village still looks about the same. Always loved checking out those old souvenir stores in town. Featherheads is an interesting one. We started going there when it was a little bitty store located upstairs from where it's at today.
I really miss that area . If I can ever get my health and finances in better shape and order, I'm going back. Might even stay for good 😄 But it was great to revisit it a little via your video. Thanks for that. Gonna check out your others of Lake Lure, Tryon etc next.

A further thought, seeing this place really reminds me of (little)Nashville, IN, at Brown Co., its a neat little tourist town outside the big Brown County St.Pk. east of Bloomington, IN.
I just get the same nostalgia vibes.
We'd been going to little nashville ever since i was a little kid, we'd go in the autumn mostly as the fall leaves there are amazing, but we'd do spring time some years. Little nashville had always been known as a artists colony and it still is a big artist's haven and destination. The famous painter T.C.Steele had a home and gardens a little ways west of there, he was of the Hoosier Group of famous painters.
His studio barn and home and gardens is a state museum now and theyve built a visitor center also now.
