This is one of my favorite John McCormack recordings!! I could listen to it over and over again, just like his recording of Handel's Come, my Beloved! As usual, this video has wonderful pictures to match the song! Thanks, Mike! Keep them coming!!!

Terrific song Mike, terrifically sung. Love the photos, especially of the older couple. Now, the song could easily apply to HRM, RIP.

My dad loved this version and the paul Robeson version.

He would have been 100 in August. He was on Saipan in 1944. He didn’t want to go, but he had to. And was proud in the end.

You've made a great job of this one Mike, lovely fitting images and a beautiful song. I love Josef Locke's recording as well.

I have always been a great McCormack fan, Mike, but no way is this the great tenor at his best. Apart from the decline in the voice, there is a curious and uncharacteristic lack of good interpretation, - say compared to the rendition of Richard Tauber. He just takes the whole song too fast. Sorry. John would not want to be remembered for this...
