Also, If you group and separate the numbers it helps.... So 6 % 2 = 3
(8/9) % 2 can be re-written as: (8/9) * (1/2) with the rule (same, change, flip).
multiply the numerators (8*1=8), and multiply the denominators (9*2=18)
This makes it 3 & 8/18... you can simplify the fraction as 3 & 4/9.... MUCH easier this way. GROUP GROUP GROUP

I am confused, your answer does not prove out when it is multiplied by 1/2. Dividing the 2 and the 31 makes no sense to me when leaving them at 62 and 2 proves out.
