Michelin-starred chef Thitid "Ton" Tassanakajohn is adding an affordable Thailand-made delicacy to the menu at his high-end Bangkok restaurant. The black caviar, mostly associated with sub-Arctic nations, is breaking into the Thai fine-dining scene, thanks to an innovative farm outside the capital. The Thai Sturgeon Farm offers a more ethical and affordable product. Sturgeon are traditionally killed to extract caviar, but the farm’s hi-tech harvesting methods “milk” the eggs without killing the endangered fish.

This technology already existed several years ago, I remember watching videos and article about it. But I guess this kind of surgery is still not as efficient as off-ing the fish for egg-harvesting, so not many adopt this method. Hopefully more and more farms use this method :).
I remember mentioning this surgery several years ago and some commenters asked me where in the future I came from, hahaha. Glad to know we're in that future now :).

I remember watching a video of caviar farming in China. I remember they said that each one of those fishes worth 1 Ferrari.

💡If the industry made this the norm, the sturgeon population would increase and caviar production would be more stable.✅

Many fisheries and even some fish breeders do this, they purposely squeeze out the eggs of the fish so they can get more fish

I'm really proud of them for this, hopefully other farms will do the same and save animal lives!

this like life imprisonment vs death penalty, it's even worse imagine being tortured your whole life.

I understand better than being killed but at the same time is the fish sedated or something??? Cause that procedure looks painful not to mention the pain on not being able to breath out of water! I'm just saying...

With the fish being out of water like that, being milked, it looks pretty traumatic to the fish

that's horrible than killing
tortured without water, thrusted to lose your eggs, and repeatedly untill you death.

The fish is endangered for a reason. People love that delicious caviar (fish eggs). This way future generations can enjoy this delicacy instead of the fish going extinct.

Man, I really like how big sturgeons are. They look very cool.

Imagine someone doing this to humans, they would be sitting in prison but what do we care since we are top of the food chain

Sparing their lives... That's most important

If only that fish could talk, tell us how much pain he’s in 😩

OR, you could just not eat caviar. Bluefin tuna. Etcetera. It's protein. Have a chicken sandwich like the rest of the (non: elitist, over privileged, entitled, pretentious, exploitative...) world.

This is cruelty to the fish just to appease mankind's taste fulfillment

At least this is more humane (and eco friendly + profitable ) than harvesting the organs

I think the fish rather prefer to be killed instantly instead, isn’t it painful¿. Just never understand why ppl eat the salty caviar

Don't eat the caviar, so the sturgeon may live longer
