New Jersey has the highest taxes in the country. Confronted about this, Murphy replied "well New Jersey may not be your State." He's the governor, he needs to fix problems. Telling people to go somewhere else is not a leader. He is an embarrassment and needs to be removed as governor on Nov. 2nd.

I'm so furious at the Senate that I need to vent:
The reason the complicated human infrastructure bill before Congress has so much stuffed into it is that every single one of the individual proposals is being blocked by Republican filibusters. That means that the only way to pass anything is to cram everything into the once-a-year budget reconciliation process, which is exempt from the filibuster.

This is also why no Voting Rights bill has made it past Mitch McConnell's filibuster blockade. Even though Voting Rights legislation may be essential to free and fair elections, it's not considered budgetary and so cannot be included in the budget package. Opponents claim it infringes on States' rights to control elections.

Biden's agenda presents a problem for Republicans - it contains very popular measures. They do not want to go on record voting against items like negotiating lower drug costs, or paid family leave for new parents, or subsidized child care so both parents can work, or child tax credits to offset some of the expenses of raising children, or universal Pre-K, or climate change measures, or dental/vision/hearing subsidies under Medicare for Seniors. Every single one of these benefits polls from 70 to over 90% favorable, with majorities even among Republican voters.

This cynical use of the filibuster forces Democrats to pack everything into one giant budget reconciliation package. The whopping price tag allows opponents to focus on the overall cost instead of its many benefits to families. IRS enforcement against tax cheats alone could raise an estimated half to one trillion dollars every year. What is not emphasized is that there are several approaches to pay for it spread across several years, mostly involving increased taxes on the very wealthiest individuals and corporations. It should be obvious they are lobbying very hard to derail this, with some success.

This is aided and abetted by Democratic Senators Manchin of WV and Sinema of Arizona, who oppose modifying the filibuster. They have also shrunk the bill considerably, in direct opposition to the other 48 Democratic Senators. So the original proposal of ~ 5-6 Trillion immediately went to 3.5 Trillion. That has now been shrunk even further to under 2 Trillion. Every piece of it has been scaled back and their time frames shortened. An increase in the minimum wage to $15 / hr and free community college have also been eliminated.

Even so, this would still be a huge help to our families, many of whom are in crises mode. They need help now, not some indefinite time down the road. Please remember this and vote accordingly in all the upcoming elections in 2022 and 2024. I feel better now. Thank you and God bless all Americans, even Republicans...
