While at the SEAPAC Ham Radio Hamfest, I bought a couple of $5 LED digital volt meters.

I show how to use the meter and build it into an Altoids tin.

Excellent! I really like your project videos. Those are cool little meters . . . makes me think of a project or two. 73

Keep notching the hole for the power cord till the power pole is "mounted" in the tin when closed. You can then use as described if you need the longer cable.

Great video, Randy!  I was just thinking about something like that for the battery pack I want to build.

These are great for the average electronics hobbyist, but not for proffessional use, just one suggestion... they need a dark filter film over the LEDs, they will be easier to read when only the digits that light up show through instead of seeing everything.

Is it capable of measuring negative voltages? Because I plan on using it with an adjustable split power supply. It has a positive, negative and common ground output terminals. I'm sure it could measure from the positive to ground but what about from negative to ground?

Anyone know where to get the colored plastic to put over them to diffuse and make more clearly readable?

Think red plastic on an older alarm clock?
