sizes, and shell material and shell thickness. but you can't define it as one thing. you can use it for rock or anything else.

But Gretsch has the silver sealer inside that brightens up the sound.  I have old Jasper shells that sound better.

Hello Memphisdrumshop I want to get a new drum set I was thinking a DW jazz series or a Ludwig classic maple. Which one you think it's better sound for a hard rock band and which one it's more versatile? Actually I have a tama superstar. Please any advice??

I'm not a fan of DW, but If there was ever a perfect sounding series of shell composition, it would be the jazz, followed by the Classics series. Collectors series sound like dead wood.
