In a televised speech to the Russian people on Saturday, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the soldiers have been given the appropriate orders to neutralise those who have organised the violent uprising. The president spoke to the country as Yevgeny Prigozhin, the commander of the Wagner mercenary group, announced that his soldiers had taken control of the Russian city of Rostov and that they were continuing to "march" towards the capital in an effort to topple the government's military authorities. "The activities that undermine our unity are actually apostasy on the part of our people, particularly from our former allies who are currently engaged in combat. This is an attack on our nation and its citizens. From whatever dangers, including internal treason, we will defend both our people and our statehood.
