Gossen Metrawatt Metrahit Ultra M248B Review Part1

You wanted to see it, so here it is. Unlike Dave's reviews of the Xtra and Energy, this Gossen will be subjected to the same tests as all the meters before it. So you Gossen fan boys best turn the channel.

"Features in detail Three Connector Jacks with Automatic Blocking Sockets (ABS)((Patented (patent no. DE 10 2005 062 624, US 7,439,725)) All current ranges are implemented via a single connector jack which prevents any possibility of operator error. Beyond this, the automatic blocking sockets prevent incorrect connection of the measurement cables, as well as selection of the wrong measured quantity.

Danger to the user, the instrument and the device under test resulting from operator error is thus ruled out. Overload Protection The instrument is safeguarded for up to 1000 V in all measuring functions by overload protection. Voltages of greater than 1000 V and current of greater than 10 or 16 A are indicated acoustically. Dangerous contact voltages are indicated when the 1 kHz lowpass filter is activated."

I've just discovered your channel, and I would like thank you for amazing content. Came when was searching for a reliable multi-meter, ended with just with browsing everything and enjoying every minute of it. Testing done right, you don't see it anymore even in the most companies building industrial equipment. Thank you.

BTW, I have attempted to keep Metrawatt informed.  I provided them with the details of what will be in part 2.  Basically, I want to know if this is a defective meter and needs to be returned for service.  Sadly there has been no response.

Great! Both a multimeter and a theremin for the same price. Going to be interesting to see why. Great video as always.

17:17 I cannot quite recall, but that "phenomena spook" reminded me of the Keysight U1272A EMC issue discussed on EEVBlog #933 (as well as the followup #987). I'm not too sure what's the issue in regards to what exactly happened with your specific Metrahit DMM, but I'll stay tuned.

Strange... My Metrahit PM Xtra came in a nice padded plastic case. And this more expensive model comes in a plain carboard box? No case?

04:50 : You can't argue with the build quality of this thing...
05:50 : I don't understand why meter manufacturers make it such a pain to replace the batteries esp. on cheap meters. The Gossen is quite a bit better in that respect, having a separate, easily accessible compartment. I hate those meters that a) require a 9v battery and b) you need sth. like 10 mins to replace it because you have to dismantle the whole meter in order to access it.10:40 : What is the maximum temperature the Gossen can measure?
11:06 : I've noticed that on most meters when the backlight is on you can't necessarily see what position your rotary switch is in. The Gossen has a slightly more visible dial but still not enough. It would be good if they had backlighting on the entire instrument panel, including the lead sockets. Alternatively, as small external light illuminating the panel would do the job.
12:00 : What is the reason the meter takes so long to settle? Isn't it a good thing, i.e. regarding precision, that it takes longer rather than shorter time?

For $800+, I'd expect perfection right out of the box. Can't wait for Part 2. Continually feeling more and more vindicated for buying my Bryman BM869s for $230.00! Give me a BM869s with Fluke 289/Gossen Metrawatt M248B features with BlueTooth and Bryman's aggressive pricing and I'd be in meter heaven...

It looked like the UniT had some "wiggle" too?

Gratz on the 2K, should be far more though for your no nonsense, clear cut vids.
Perhaps we look at it as 2.3K people know their arse from their elbow!

You got your new favorite meter, didn't you? At least until HIOKI DT4282 arrives... ;)

The gossen is a meter that dave would be kissing, so i did expect it to perform better than all of the others, but the resistance did take a week and a half to sort itself out.:-(

The 300khz test result just seemed unimpressive.

And the mad field effect of your hand with 60hz on it really supprised me, it's almost like there is no sheilding in it.
I don't get that from my £5 specials lol.

The display was tiny, i know it was due to it's resolution, but was it not possible to continue with another line showing the remainder of the reading, perhaps im mad :)

first strong dislike is the tiny main display. its doesnt matter how good the thing is if you cant see it.
