There is literally ZERO reason for the umpire to intentionally walk out towards the pitcher in this circumstance. Literally ZERO reason.

Lester was upset with the way he was pitching.

That umpire was an asshole, not just to Lester, but also to Ross. "Hey, get outta my way so I can yell at your pitcher or I'm gonna eject you." I give Ross props for standing up for Lester. If I was Ross I would not have backed down, I'd probably be making HIM walk backwards, even if I do get ejected.

Whoa, Jesus Christ. I have never seen an umpire initiate a fight and having to be held back before. Not even Paul Schriber, Bob Davidson or Vic Carrapazza! That is CRAZY! Joe Maddon is lucky he didn't get tossed! I'm surprised!
