A TRIBUTE TO GORBACHEV
He had the absolute power
to destroy the lives of ordinary people.
He even had the power to destroy the world many times over.
He was worshipped like a demigod and
his command was obeyed like the word of god.
He had reached the point in his life where
nobody could question or disobey him...
but,
instead of abusing his power like his predecessors
He chose to use that power to serve mankind.
He chose humanity over despotism and
chose peace over war.
He saw people as equal to himself and
realised that people have as many rights as he does.
He felt the pain and suffering of ordinary people and
chose to change the demonic system
by giving people rights to live as free men...

It was his moral courage and his wisdom that made him take on the establishment knowing full well that he might end up paying the price with his life, and the total destruction of his family.
But he risked everything for a just cause.

Taking this opportunity, I compare the process of radical opening led by M. Gorbachev with the timid and moderate opening led by N. Khrushchev. In 1941 as World War II was raging kaiser Willhelm the second leader of Germany in World War I died in Holland. When this happened they were many comparisons between him and the German empire of 1871 to 1918 to that of Adolf Hitler and the then current conflict that was engulfing the world. In much the same way I am not surprised that people will probably be making similar comparisons between Mikal Gorbachev last leader of the Soviet union and Vladimir Putin the current leader of Russia. Especially since the policies of glasnost and perestroika and allowing the destruction of the Berlin wall are in every way the antithesis of the evil coming from Vladimir Putin who has crushed dissent in Belarus assassinated his own opponents in his country and unleashed international wars of aggression in Georgia and most recently in Ukraine. The world has truly lost a beacon of hope and freedom in these trying times. Let us hope that Vladimir Putin will not come to nearly the same peaceful ending Gorbachev did and that Putin‘s empire lasts much shorter and is much less successful than the Soviet Union, hopefully without the use of nuclear weapons
