Shanghai Metro turns 30! A 831km network with a daily ridership record of over 132.9mln

Opened in 1993 with five stations, the network of Shanghai Metro now includes 20 lines, 508 stations, and spans 831 kilometers. Accounting for 73 percent of the city's transportation capacity, the magic system set a daily ridership record of 132.9 million, all making it one of the busiest rail rapid transit system in the world.
