My guru Smt T Brinda and her sister Smt T Muktha, grand daughters of
Smt Veena Dhanammal, had a prodigious repertoire of padams and javalis.
Both padams and javalis are composed in shringara rasa. Compared to padams which are sung in a vilamba or slow kalapramanam, javalis are composed in a faster tempo.The sahitya is simple and this tempo gives a joyful and lilting feel to this type of composition.
In this javali in Kedaragowla by Sri Dharmapuri Subbarayar, the nayika says, " Era , tagunatara? Is it right to do this? Do not tease me, oh my Lord!"
Some of his other famous javalis are Parulannamata , Adineepai, Sakhi prana, Smarasundaranguni, Narimani and many more.

About Sangita Kalanidhi Smt. T. Brinda -
Smt T. Brinda, born in 1912, was the grand-daughter of Veena Dhanammal and imbibed the great musical tradition of that illustrious family. She also received her music training under the famous Kanchipuram Naina Pillai and thus extended her vast repertoire of compositions.
She began to give public performances together with her sister Smt.T.Mukta at the early age of eight and was renowned for her exquisite and emotion-filled rendering of padams, javalis and rare krithis of the Trinity. Smt T.Brinda received a host of awards a few among them being the ‘Sangita Kalanidhi’ title from the Music Academy in 1976, the ‘Sangita Kala Sikhamani’ title from the Indian Fine Arts Society in 1973 and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Vocal Carnatic Music in 1965.
She was Professor of Vocal Music for over two decades at the Central College of Karnatic Music , Chennai. She was also Visiting Professor in the University of Washington, Seattle, USA for a brief period. She passed away on 6 August 1996 at the ripe age of eighty-four.

An acclaimed and widely travelled Indian Carnatic Vocalist, Smt. Geetha Raja is a disciple of Sangita Kalanidhi Smt T. Brinda. As a representative of the Brinda school of music belonging to the Veena Dhanammal tradition, her singing is marked by a strong adherence to classicism. She has benefited greatly from other mentors in music—Sangita Kala Acharya Shri Bombay Ramachandran, Sangita Kalanidhi, Padma Bhushan Shri K. S. Narayanaswamy and Padmashri Shri Kunnakudi Vaidyanathan. Kalaimamani Geetha Raja combines many accomplishments—she is a well-known concert performer, a Vainika and a sought after Guru.
