For the large ball at 9:00 I had to set the VIDEO SPEED at 0.25X and watched that the ball was palmed from his lap, but then watching at 1X, even now knowing the trick, his dexterity was good that it was MAGIC again! He's GOOD! Well

I’m always less amazed at how slick they are when they do this trick, and more amazed at how fast they are. Watching the trick, especially because penn and teller expose it, you know where the balls are coming from, but they do it so fast, that you are still tricked.
That last metal ball from Paul, he was so fast bringing it up from under the table while he was moving the cup that it was incredibly hard to see.
I feel the same sense of amazement when watching videos of workers doing their job with precision at high rates of speed, or athletes doing amazing tricks.
Knowing how the trick is done doesn’t ruin anything for me because of the speed and accuracy a magician has while performing the trick.

Dude Paul Gertner doing this trick his way is STILL incredible. Like, everything I watch, it somehow becomes more unbelievable. These three are so freakin talented.

Mr. Maher - thank you for putting this together - one of my favorite illusions!

I’ve been watching you for awhile and seen some videos specifically on this trick. It’s almost like Magician 101. Like what you said. I get mesmerized watching people do this even WITH clear cups. Just watching their hands dance and the slickness. Not just the sleight of hand but all subtle things like what the other hand is doing or engaging them with some conversation to distract. Just really cool stuff.

Love the old classics …. They never grow old. Great video!

I remember watching Paul Daniels doing this. It wasn’t just the slickness of the moves but the machine gun patter. A skill crafted in the working men’s clubs of northern England.
Cups and balls are definitely the greatest trick ever.

Paul Gertner’s cup and balls is my favorite by far. Dudes a legend.

Love me some cups and balls. I think watching Penn & Teller do the cups and balls with clear cups when I was a kid really made me look at magic in a different way. Seeing that a trick like the cups and balls really was just cups, balls, and a whole lotta skill helped bring magic back to earth and made me far more interested in it.

Cheers!

Great to see Paul's variation with sound - but I was most impressed with your routine Jason. Keep the content coming, you are awesome!

So, the sound component can be achieved both inside AND OUTSIDE the cup. That's what sells it and makes it more versatile than just the negative it appears on the surface, in terms of actually being able to pull off the trick.

Jason Latimers clear cups and balls routine is still my favourite. So dang smooth slight of hand in it

4:54 I remember watching Paul Gertner on Johnny Carson when I was a kid. I thought that voice sounded familiar and I looked up the clip where he was on Carson and it’s the same guy.

The trick is good, but the magician is what is truly impressive.

Thanks Jason, love the videos :)

The first video of Jason’s I saw was his regular cups and balls routine followed by his clear plastic routine. Proud to be part of that 1.7M. I was blown away. Penn and Teller’s was great too but in my opinion Paul’s routine is hands down the best. The timing and technique needed to mask those sounds is one another level! Next level I guess would be clear metal cups with ball bearings?
