Psalm 51

Have mercy on me, O God,
because of Your loving-kindness.
Because of Your great compassion,
please wipe away all my wrongs.

Wash me clean from my sin.
Make me pure from the evil I’ve done.

I know my sins.
They’re always in my mind.

I’ve sinned against You, and only You.
I’ve done what is evil in Your eyes.
You are right when You judge me.

I was born a sinner
from the moment my mother gave birth.

But You want truth deep in my heart.
So teach me wisdom deep inside me.

Clean me with hyssop, and I will be clean.
Wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.

Let me hear joy again.
Let my broken heart dance once more.

Turn Your face from my sins.
Wipe away all the evil I’ve done.

God, create in me a clean heart.
Make my spirit right again.

Don’t throw me away from Your presence.
Don’t take Your Holy Spirit from me.

Bring back the joy of knowing You.
Give me a spirit that wants to obey You always.

Then I will teach others Your ways,
and sinners will return to You.

Save me from my guilt, O God,
and I will sing of Your righteousness.

Lord, open my lips,
and my mouth will praise You.

You don’t delight in sacrifices—
or I would bring them.
You don’t want burnt offerings.

What You really want is a broken spirit.
You will not turn away a humble and sorry heart, O God.

Do good to Your city, Zion.
Build the walls of Jerusalem.

Then You will be pleased with right offerings
with burnt sacrifices and whole offerings.
Then bulls will be offered on Your altar.

Closing Prayer:
Dear God,
Thank You for Your love and mercy. Sometimes I mess up and fall short, but You never give up on me. Just like David asked, I’m asking You — please wash me clean. Make my heart new and help me live the right way. Fill me with Your Spirit and give me back the joy of being close to You. Thank You for always being willing to forgive when I come to You with honesty. I love You.
Amen
