You see in Jungian psychology the shadow self is the aspects of the person they do not see as desirable in their ideal self. The shadow is more or less one's personal perception of aspects of themselves they deem to be negative, whether these aspects are as the one views them or if they even exist at all. They're rarely enough for forming the entire whole of the self, no matter how much the person might despise themselves.
