got it working for the first time in years thanks to your video and also reading the comments about enabling the mouse in mame by mame. ini file had to switch mine from 0 to 1 now I can play missile command, centipede, arkanoid and more THANKS TO THIS VIDEO thank you thank you thank you!!!!

I ordered a Taito Egret II Mini which comes with its own Trackball and Spinner controller. I'll be testing to see if MAME recognizes it as a controller. Otherwise, I'll looking into getting a Mayflash adapter and trying that! Always wanted to play trackball games like Crystal Castles and Centipede and even Arkanoid on the spinner. I'm using a controller for a game called sega sonic but I don't have a track ball is there a way to make my controller a track ball?

Bummer.
When I hit enter on Trackball x or y and spin the ball either direction, it doesn't acknowledge it.
Also, when I spin the ball after I reset x or y, I can see the highlight moving up or down

Thanks for this, unfortunately I'm using MAME on Mac OS X and while my X-Arcade Trackball (original model without the Tank Stick) functions as a mouse, I cannot get MAME to recognize it in the TAB Config settings. Strange.

What if the tab key doesnt give the menu?

Everything works until I move the track ball. A pointer moves on the screen, but the setting does not pick up the input. Any suggestions?

Is this configuration done in MAME or Maximus. I have tried it this way for the spinner and it does not do anything after selecting analog dial or anyhthing I press. It stays blank.

This was a big waste of time for me as it is missing the most important info, of How do you add the Trackball in the first place !! You need to
FIRST go into the MAME menu before you launch any games. Go to OPTIONS, then DEFAULT GAME PROPERTIES, CONTROLLERS and then Enable Mouse. Then
the Trackball will show up as MOUSE X (Analogue Device), when you press TAB.
