He's concerned about the food because when we go on road trips to Disney, I pack them candy/snack boxes. He's "upset" that we don't have them with us, so he's like, "No" it's not Disney time.

Poor kid. I totally get it. A 180° change in plans of where I'm supposed to be throws me for a loop. Always has.
Boy got up expecting to go to school, and now it's 100% different. I get that.

Man, that was me. I cannot be surprised like that. Like a total change of plans, on the spot, will give me anxiety. I meed some time to prepare myself no matter how fun it would be.

Never in my life have I ever thought I’d hear a kid say they want to go to school instead of Disneyland

"Where's the food?"
"We'll get it on the way as soon as possible since you're concerned."
9 words and that could have been avoided.

Sister in the back like “damn now we ARE going to school?” 🤨🤣

I don't like surprises. This kid is me. If something is sprung on me, no matter how positive I get this overwhelming feeling like oh I was all set with the original plan why did you change it?
He needs time to digest the change in plans.

Bro was more focused on the food than the fact that they got to skip school to go to disneyland 🤣🤣

He wanted to be prepared to go there. He was already prepared to go to school so Disneyland threw him off. I feel the same way

He’s the only kid in the entire universe who’d rather go to school than Disneyland 😳

i completely understand his emotions here, his routine just got COMPLETELY turned upside down and he wasnt prepared at all, and especially with him just being informed like on the way to school, ive had meltdowns like this before, its really scary bc u couldnt prepare, i hope he spent that day preparing and felt happy enough to go have some fun

Some people don't deal with change very well & need to prepare themselves.
My son has adhd & routine was huge for him, I could certainly surprise him like this but it would cause a ripple effect but it could go wrong too. He also loved school as a kid and hated taking days off.

This mom totally ignored her son’s question. If she had answered his concern, he probably wouldn’t have been that worried and cried. He just needs clarification. Especially people with anxiety, they don’t like sudden change of plans. When I go on a trip somewhere, I need a plan of what to do exactly. It’s not severe, but I’m not the type to just buy a ticket somewhere and not knowing what to do afterwards. Being mentally and physically prepared for changes are important for people on spectrum.

This happened to me…. I told my daughters we were going to the mall when in reality we where going to watch Disney on Ice. One daughter was happy the other was upset. When I asked her why, she said she wanted to go eat at the food court.

I came to the comments to bring up the neurodivergent factor, but it looks like others explained it really well. Change can be very hard to handle. I was undiagnosed as a kid and often called "ungrateful" for moments like this. You were such a sweet, understanding mama about his reaction ❤

My mom did this to me one time. She told us we were going to our Grandmas house but then surprised when we saw the Ferris wheel. It was amazing!
