Fun headcanon:

Present Kronii already met Old Watson and gave her the watch as a gift for finally discovering the secrets of the universe as a mere mortal. It was supposed to be used by Old Watson to revisit the happiest moments of her life before she passes away.

Her last gremliny defiant act to destiny is to prank Kronii by leaving it in a place present Watson would find one day.

That's why Kronii acts like it was stolen but doesn't lift a finger to get it back.
