Can I ask what you ended up doing around those pot light mounting plates? I'm using the same ones and can't find any useful info on what kind of boot should be used to interface with the vapour barrier. The old school pot light boots (those blue ones) seem waaay overkill and cost more than price of the pot light itself 😄

Here in Qc we run the poly under the strapping.
Wonder how effective is it over the strapping

Hi @Right Way Building, thanks for the informative video and comments that you added. i have a questions pls, do you install vapor barrier for the ceiling between multiple floors? or it is just unique to the ceiling which is below the attic directly? questions is from QC Canada. thanks again

Insulation. Vapour barrierefrei and last the wood inside. 1000s and 1000s of holes.

Better to run poly same way as the strapping for pressure seal using acoustical sealant. That house will have lots of heat loss.

Is this being stapled onto the battens?

Wood already has plenty of mold spores. You have created a perfect Petri dish. Only thing missing is a season of humid air before the bloom starts.

Everyone’s up your ass about how your doing it but it’s done exactly the same way in Ontario. Every place has their own building codes so it’s done different in different areas. It’s like bagged milk vs milk in jugs lol. Also it works good probably better than whatever everyone else is talking about cause we have harsher building codes in Canada I think because we have harsher weather. Go down south you don’t need much since it doesn’t get too cold. Go up North and get say -40 C then you need good insulation, also doesn’t cause any problems like rot like people keep mentioning

I can’t even see what tool you’re using 🤷🏻‍♂️

That looks like plastic sheeting. If so, any moisture that gets behind it will be trapped and cause mold and rot. It also appears to be stapled, so all those penetrations will leak house moisture into the wood and then into the entire insulation layer.

actually it didnt really show how to measure, where to start, or anything..

Don’t do this, I have seen an entire house rot from inside out because of poly on ceilings. Unless you have an air exchange, only put poly on exterior walls. You will have mold within a few years of finished. B
Do your due diligence.

This guy must be paid by the hour because this is backwards and wrong not to mention extremely time consuming he would go bankrupt if he was working on a contract.
