Looking For a New Pin-pointer? Here are 2 You Should Consider.

The XP MI-4 waterproof pinpointer is one of the most rugged and sensitive pinpointers on the market. I have been using both the MI-4 and MI-6 for over 2 years with zero flaws. The craftsmanship and attention to detail of the MI pinpointers is unmatched. They are built tough and made to last. They work in any condition (rain, sleet, snow, underwater etc.). The XP MI-4 is one of the best pin point probes on the market.

Here is a real review of 2 pin-pointers that I personally own. I have been using for these over 2 years. I recently bought another one because they are time tested, made extremely well (rugged), and work in hot (mineralized) dirt. If you are looking for a new pin-pointer or just starting out I highly recommend the XP MI-4 or the MI-6 pin point probe.

I've just brought a new mi4 it should be here in a few days..😃
I chose this one above others for several reasons.. 1. its quality
2. It changes pitch the closer your target is. 3. Fully water proofing. 4. The idea of connecting to your headphones wifi is cool. But i decided that it's not necessary because in practice i would hit a target and my reaction would be to drop my headphones to dig. This gives me a break from them. I have a nokta makro and did have that choice but decided the alternating pitch was of more importance with possible tiny targets..

Along with many other MI-6 users, I've been plagued with intermittent connectivity issues between the pinpointer and remote while out in the field. I switch it on and one time in ten it fails to connect. XP say the issue has been resolved through a firmware fix in version V1.04.03, although I've heard not everyone has seen an improvement. The firmware in the MI-6 cannot be updated via the website or at home, it has to be done at an authorised XP service centre. I understand there should be no cost for this if the unit is still under warranty. You can only check your firmware version during the pairing process as it appears on the screen at the point of pairing for a few seconds when it connects, so you must first unpair then pair it again to see it. I bought mine in December 2022 and the firmware V1.04.02. I'm sending it off to be updated today...fingers crossed it works for me! Even with the minor issue, it's still a fantastic piece of kit.

Totally agree - my MI-6 has been great. I used it paired with my Deus 2. My Fisher F-pulse pinpointer experienced a water leak around the button rubber and was ruined. I have a Garret ProPointer but it's now just a backup since the XP MI-6 gets all the use.

I’ve used the original black Garrett, the PP2 and 2 Carrots. After getting the MI-6 I’ve been kicking myself for not getting it sooner. It doesn’t FALSE on bad ground or under pressure, it doesn’t interfere with my CTX or Explorer, it operates exactly as it should and it’s easy to use. I don’t CARE about price, I care that it works and finds coins fast, EVERY TIME. Since I’ll be getting a Deus2 shortly, it’ll be even nicer with it paired.

I agree with the volume of the pin pointer as I own one myself! I recently bought the Nokta Makro pulse dive combination underwater coil and handheld pin pointer and also noticed that when you have the waterproof cap on the back the sound volume is greatly reduced! With the pulse dive they included an end cap that has ports in it to allow the speaker to be heard and it makes a huge difference but this is only used during land hunting as it is not waterproof so you have two caps one that is waterproof for diving or submersing and one you can put on it went on land and the volume difference is very big! If XP could provide a similar end cap which is ported that would solve the problem because when I leave the end cap that comes with the XP off of it the volume is twice as loud! Now that I think about it I'm curious because the dimensions of the two pinpointers are suspiciously identical! I'll have to see if I could use that spare land hunting end cap on the XP LOL! Another thing that we could probably do is buy a spare end cap for the XP and drill small 16th in Holes through the back thereby allowing a greater volume! Anyways that's my two cents worth I'm going to investigate further! Thank you for your videos I enjoy them greatly! They are also very informative. Keep up the good work and happy hunting!

I agree with you on the speaker volume. I had the MI-6 and hated it because I couldnt hear it unless I ran it with the endcap removed. I gave it to a new detectorist that didn't have a pinpointer, and replaced it with a Nokta Macro Pulsedive. No complaints with that one except the holster clip is garbage, zip tie the holster to your shovel handle. (It also works great with the GPX-5000, I thought both being pulses would be a disaster, it wasnt). Joe

Quick question - i just got the Mi4 in part because of this review and your experience with digging in VA (my home turf;) - so far i like it! I do agree with you on the volume issue ... My question is about the LED - mine blinks every few seconds even when its off... 🤨 Is that normal ?? If not than i guess i should try to return it...if so do you know why ? It seems like its just draining the battery for no reason...🧐😒 Any insight would be GREATLY appreciated!!!! Many Thanks and Happy Digging!!!😎
