After the Constitutional Convention of 1787, a woman on the street in Philadelphia spoke to Benjamin Franklin and asked what type of government had been decided upon. He supposedly replied “A republic, ma’am, if you can keep it”. For some time now, we have been told that we live in a Democracy – yet nowhere in the U.S. Constitution is the word “Democracy” found. We are being told that “Trump is an existential threat to our Democracy”. Considering how little input the common people of the country have in the politicians who are voted for, it seems that there is an elite group who are making the decisions – which is the definition of an Oligarchy. (just look at how the current presumptive Democrat Presidential candidate was selected.) Shouldn’t the rallying cry be that “Trump is an existential threat to our Oligarchy”?
