The reason why you see houses constantly launching new fragrances is because it isn't the fragrance houses, it's the licensing companies needed to constantly churn fragrances and keep their infrastructure. Also, the bidding wars between licensing companies and the various fashion houses is intense. Companies do not want to invest in design/packaging which can cost millions of dollars. The retailers will not take just one fragrance and they request a collection as well. Sending my best Mr. Smelly from across the pond!

I think chest hair is a legit advantage when wearing fragrances. It shares a fair bit of the effect one gets from clothing. Frags are the icing on my standard t-shirt and cargo shorts uniform, but I’m not a reviewer with hundreds of bottles. I dress purely for comfort, use fragrance for my own enjoyment, and enjoy the luxury of not having to impress anyone but my inner circle. It’s amazing. I also like to pleasantly surprise people who aren’t expecting me to smell the way I do. If I see a guy in a suit, I already expect him to be wearing an appropriate fragrance. It’s the norm, and the norm is boring. Keep up the good work, Mr. S!

I always enjoy your content. This particular video is top notch as you addressed so many topics in one single video with honesty and without being offensive or putting anyone down. Great video!

Another one would be just how many people lie about the compliments they get ? 😉

In my personal experience, when a person looks/behaves like jeremy, it could be they have a cocaine problem....

Great video, Dan. Another question could be what's up with hating "synthetics", which are frequently the "essence" of a natural fragrance. "Synthetics" can smell great. Goes along with the Attack of The Clones hang-up.

I understand where your coming from in terms of reviewers dressing casual. First however remember that most reviewers are not salesmen. Also while to you fragrances are part of dressing nice and more formal (aka a suit) many of us like to smell nice all the time wether hanging out in the house, doing shores, or hanging out with friends. To someone like me (part of the 1% and businessman) who doesn't like suits because I see them as a uniform for work, I like fragrances that aren't to serious and conservative for the same reason. In other words I relate to reviewers that are more casual (not sloppy) because that's the kind of fragrances I'm looking for.

Jeremy Fragrance’s recommendations are all about German tastes. I’m french-German and can confirm the tastes are slightly different on the other side of the border. German tastes are very fresh/citrusy when you compare to Italian/spanish/french favorite fragrances. The compliment factor depends highly on your home culture...

The point about how many perfume reviewers present themselves is interesting: No matter whether it's luxury watches, perfumes or even grooming (i.e. the double-edged razor community) - once men geek out about one topic, they tend to neglect everything else one might associate with that particular niche.
For example: I'm into classic menswear (your suits are too tight around the chest, I'm afraid) and my girlfriend has a hard time holding me back from eating Nutella with a spoon. Duh. Men.

Why do many fragrance reviewers have shelves full of thousands of dollars worth of fragrances behind them, and yet they dress like they have no money for clothes?

The answer is located on the shelves full of thousands of dollars worth of fragrances behind them.

The best fragrance reviewers in my opinion are yourself, Joy Amin and Ashton from Gentscents. Ashton often wears a beanie hat. Joy just wears normal clothes with no real quality editing.
I watch you all because of your fantastic knowledge and you seem genuine.

I just did a fragrance review with a snap back on. I've also done one in a football shirt. As a teacher I wear a suit everyday at work. As a fragrance reviewer I want people to listen to what I'm saying rather than be judged on the clothing I wear.

I also think there is too much fakeness with reviewers these days. Reviewers sent fragrances with a script to read out.
Some doing it for the fame rather than the passion for fragrances.
We all know Jeremy Fragrance was a popstar before. Hes done extremely well to get a million subscribers no doubt.

Joy Amin just released a superb video about how he feels as a reviewer. Its definitely worth a watch.

Great video by the way. I agree with the Lex videos. He was good.

Great video. Please check mine out.

Warm regards,

Dan

Most people just want to wear casual clothing and not pretend to be some kind of business man wearing a suit. It sometimes can seem a bit arrogant to overdress, it has to fit the situation. The focus nowadays lies more on nice expensive sneaker, designer shirts... just a sporty casual style. The blue fragrance hype is because it fits these style. There are hardly any fougere or classic smelling scents being released because hardly anyone still wears a suit. Even at my insurance company hardly anyone wears a suit, just a nice polo shirt. The last time I wore my suit was at a funeral a year ago...

Dan, I'm not afraid to ask... Can you please do a break-down/comparison video on the fragrance offerings of Boucheron and Cerruti? With warmer weather coming, I've got the hots for a stout masculine citrus/floral/woody fragrance. Keep smelling good my friend, even when no one else is around! :)

Hi, Mr Daytonn Smelly. I really like your intelligent reviews; spiffy presentation, and impressive commitment to fully rendering your clever and goofy humour, ha. (Would you identify with the INTJ profile, by any chance? Not that any proper INTJ would be likely to say so here if they did, but I can't help but wonder . . . :-))

Thanks for what you do with this channel, and congratulations on the Gravitas launch!

This copy editor can answer your hyphenation and compound term questions. Either forms you mentioned for oakmoss and lily of the valley could still be acceptable in some quarters. The choice would be a matter of style vs. hard and fast rules, in those cases. I would say, however, that the rarer and more old-fashioned renderings "oak moss" and LOTV, all hyphenated, seem to be very much on the way out. (P.S. "black currant" may one day go all the way of the compound oakmoss, but the two-word version is the more reliably considered correct. Being of a different justification, altogether, the hyphen in ylang-ylang is here to stay.) Is it any wonder everyone's confused?!
