Every Small Guard Needs This Skill

This is a skill that may seem obvious to some but is very useful when mastered. Shorter guards like Nate Robinson, Shane Larkin, Isaiah Thomas, Kay Felder, and Chris Lykes have used this skill to score at high levels.

Popping into a shot is what happens when a player focuses on getting as high as they can as quickly as possible when two feet are down. Taller players like Kobe don't do this when they pull up because they don't need to. When Kobe pulls up, it is a smooth motion from the steps to the sink down to the elevation. When shorter players pull up, they need to strike their feet into the ground quickly, not sink too low, and pop up as high as possible to have a chance of getting the shot off.
