Marbles have been found in excavations of civilizations all over the world. Made from stone, wood, and even polished nuts. Marbles gained widespread use after a German glassblower invented of a pair of scissors to cut glass in 1839. After this innovation, glass marbles were easier to mass produce and lower in price.
