Another dirty trick people use when they lose the fight, is that they give the money to that persons child and tell them to give it to their parents later. Losing the battle winning the war,

The bathroom trick is a real thing, actually. It's a classic method in the polite fight.

My friend's mom secretly paid the bill once, and my mom ordered me to give cash to my friend at school the next day. However, when i tried to give the cash, my friend said she was ordered to refuse. I got in so much trouble that day when I came home with the money...

as a former server and full-time asian, the most effective way I've seen is to come to the restaurant early and have the server hold onto your card. i had a big party once who did that, and so many people kept "going to the bathroom" only to find the bill was already taken care of ho ho ho oh

This is so real! My wife's aunt caught me secretly paying for the bill at the front of the restaurant. She immediately stormed to the front and literally pinned me against the wall with her forearm across my shoulder and tried to search for the bill. It was like I was getting mugged! I told her I already paid. Then she demanded the cashier to cancel my credit card payment. The cashier was so shocked at what she was seeing she didn't argue and reversed the transaction right away and let her pay. It really does get physical!

This is so real. My uncle once gave them his card the moment we walked in so when it came time for the bill to be paid he just sat there with a smug smile and said he already paid. The chaos of my dad and his friends trying to cancel the payment was hilarious

Here’s a tip for anyone working as a server during one of these situations: I will take the person’s credit card, and say to the other person “just shove cash into her purse when she’s not looking.” For some reason, this satisfies them every time, and it moves the fight to outside of the restaurant! Haha

Bathroom trick is always a go to trick. Though my uncle had a really good one: thanking the waiter for the service with a handshake, card in hand.

The adults always do this during family dinners at restaurants and we kids like to lie back and watch haha. The kids table is always separate from the adults and when the food comes it’s silent war we just fight for our food like first come first serve basis. but at the adult table it’s a whole nother situation. No one touches the food and everyone serves the eldest first. And it goes like “oh you take first you take first” and polite smiles going back and forth

Growing up, I used to see my parents and their friends do this all the time. Thinking back, it was quite hilarious to see the white cashier standing there speechless and dumbfounded. Lol

I’ve read enough of the comments to say my family has done all these and more. We now have dedicated host opportunities marked down every year so people get to show off their generosity. The last fight I noticed was my Grandfather and Uncle fighting at the cash register. A friendly tug of the booklet and swapping of cards. The manager comes out to resolve to commotion. My grandfather tries to bribe the manager with money and it almost seems like the manager has had enough and likes the deal. My uncle replies back, “if you take his money, then I will not dine here anymore.” Then my uncle stood still at the register in a defiant stand as if the manager has wronged him. The manager politely reaches for my Uncle’s card. I’ve never been so embarrassed at a restaurant before when over 100 Chinese people stop talking and stare. I also found new respect for my uncle because normally my grandfather wins these fights.
