Small Hive Beetle larvae-The hungry beast-Save the honey bees.
Small hive beetles can be very detrimental to honey bee apiaries. There are several traps that help to minimize the damage caused by this devastating honey bee pest. However, this is normally not enough to stop the problem definitely. In this video, I am showing a short clip of the most devastating phase of the biological cycle of SHB. The larval phase. Where the larvae must consume as much as they can for proper pupation. It is disgusting.
I am working on a more complete video about the life cycle of SHB. Let me know your questions and I will try to answer them in the next video. Another great small hive beetle video from the honey bee research and extension laboratory in Florida.

They are after the fact.. the VERY BEST SHB DEFENSE is bee coverage and strong hives..not traps or gimmicks

Thank you so much for your response! I decided to remove the pollen paste I was given when I bought the hive, and yesterday I only saw 3 larvae left. Prior to that the bees were swarming on top of them. I'm hoping they are gone.

SHB larvae on a bottom board is a great place to use a small propane torch. Nothing like brown crunchy SHB larvae to feed to chickens or birds!

We need far more research on SHB. We resort to using paper cloths to help control them. Seems like we should have figured this issue out by now. In my opinion, they are just as bad as mites.
