The Posies - Mrs. Green - Cover

Miserable "Mrs. Green!" The Posies! Such a fine Power Pop band out of Seattle. If Grunge hadn't happened these guys would have been huge. This song is off the excellent Dear 23 album from 1990. I'm a sucker for walking Bass lines in Pop. There is not enough of that, methinks.

These videos serve as lessons on how I play this bunch of Pop, Rock, and Reggae songs - sometimes as a single guitarist playing the only guitar part, though that's rare. And sometimes if there is more than one guitar part, then trying to find the single good path through the tune. I complete one pass, demonstrating different Rhythm parts, styles, and techniques. There is no talking. No discussion. No note-for-note explanations. As such, for clarity, my guitar is supposed to be louder in the mix than it would ever be in a live setting. But, if you really want to hear what I hear, do what I do and put on a good pair headphones with great bass response! It's worth it.

Why this is important to Rhythm Guitar:
It's the feel. You can just feel the walking around, as this guy is thinking about her - the miserable Mrs. Green. The kinda jazzy Amaj7 to G sharp suspended is inspired. That and the outright Rock of the chorus really make this tune. Oh, and the harmony vocals. Oh, and the drums. And the incredible Bass line.

This is how little you should play if there is an Acoustic Guitar chugging along in your band. You do not need to double that.

Forget the reverb-laden acoustic guitar solo. It's cool, but that's just studio.

Playing it live, I'd skip it and stack vocal harmonies...

I know Ken and Jon. They were friends with my late brother from grade school through high school. Jon recorded some drums at my basement studio in 1992.
