I've got both volumes of the monk and robot series. Agree with your rant, but they look lovely on the shelf. ;) I'm sure I'll reread them

Love Becky Chambers and want to re-read this duology soon. ❤ Both 'The Concise Chinese-English Dictionary' and 'The Stranger in the Mirror' sound intriguing.
I'm also looking forward to hearing *your* take on 'Fresh Banana Leaves' as the topic and the indigenous author aspect are interesting to me.

I bought so many books this year (more than normal), so I'm not going to ask for any for Christmas even though that doesn't mean that people won't buy them for me :) I have been trying to buy less...But I failed this year.
I haven't read any of the books you've mentioned but find myself interested more in readin Siri Hustvedt. Let's see. Happy reading, Britte!

I've read Xiaolu Guo's memoirs (which I really recommend) and one of her novels so far - I have another ready to go on my kindle 🙂

A Concise Chinese-English Dictionary of Love sounds intriguing. I look forward to seeing your review when you get a chance to read it.

I love your chatty style Britta. Not read any of those but the Jane Shilling sounds interesting.

Have you tried Blackwells? I think they delivery for free in Europe and the prices are pretty good
I love the Monk and robot series. I enjoy rereading them when I need a pick me up and something that brings out the best in those involved.

Already have the books by Chambers, Didion, and Hernandez, but it's the book by Xiaolu Guo that is catching my eye most.

Did you mention The Vegetarian at one time? I have it on the Kindle stack, but I can't remember if you gave it a thumbs up or down. I have a couple set in Korea in the stack for next year.

The Concise Chinese-English Dictionary of Love sounds interesting. I do enjoy books written in letters, diary form, etc. I love the title A Memoir of Middle Age. It is a distant memory for me 🤭thanks Britta. Good haul.

Great book haul with a lot to look forward to! I'm particularly interested in the Rebecca Hernandez book, though it's a bummer to hear that it could have used some more editing...that can drive me crazy when reading.

I haven’t read a good essay collection in a while — where does one start with Siri Hustvedt? (I’ve heard about Xiaolu Guo’s _Concise_ but just haven’t gotten there yet.)

I haven't read any of those. I did listen to part of Griffin Dunne's book, The Friday Afternoon Club, where Joan Didion is mentioned (she was his aunt by marriage). I couldn't listen to it all because he spent a lot of time talking about his penis.
Anyway, Didion and her husband seemed rather normal compared to the rest of them.
