Unprecedented rains and runoff created a state of emergency on the West Coast. I decided to get a 1st hand look at what little I could access: the Vedder Rotary Loop along the Vedder river. Not looking good!!

This reminded me of walking around low lying communities in Calgary in June of 2013. I'm impressed that bridge or its abutments didn't wash away with the water level so high. I also expected the trail to be much more washed out.

Also, I'm impressed with how quickly they've been repairing the trail so soon after the event. Thanks for the tour!

This was excellent - like I was really there. Camera was crisp, sharp, good commentary, and we can see how high the water actually got to. wow. It must have come up 10'. And a ways to go yet, but the danger is over now. It is a draining process, letting the water out of the bathtub. If it has drained that much in 4-5 days, I can see a huge difference in 1 week.

With rains coming next week, this will be good, to wash all that silt off and give the land a much needed bath. You are so far ahead now, that it is all downhill from here. The rain will get rid of the stink, the mud, the silt, some debris. It will be a good thing. I can see 1-2 feet a day drop. By Wednesday, in 3 days hwy 1 will be out of the water. Good news. Thanks for the tour. I watched with fascination for the entire clip.

You know, VOLUNTEERS of the cycling community could pitch in to help clean up YOUR trails instead of waiting for the bureaucracy to do it.
