The "silence" he's describing is called "room tone".

Fun fact: Water tastes like negative saltiness.

Your mouth is always slightly salty due to your own saliva, and water flushes that away. Thus, your tongue is tasting a negative dip in saltiness from “zero” saltiness!

Water tastes like whatever is in the water, because there’s almost always something in the water. Dirt, rock, plastic, charcoal, etc all have flavors.

It's not actually "silence." But it is a room profile that can affect even the most subtle of sounds traveling it it and make it sound different in ways your nody can actually detect, though not really quantify. The room's shape, including things like furniture and even the amount of light shining in it can make tiny, minute differences in the ambient soundscapes of rooms.

Have you ever drunk water when you're thirsty vs not thirsty?

WATER HAS A TASTE!

It's called room tone, and it's not just for a literal "room", it's especially important when filming outdoors to capture stuff like the actual breeze or leaves rustling. Speaking from experience, putting in wind sound effects in post production is a nightmare because you can't make it too intense or too soft because you can still see the wind and what it's doing to leaves, people's hair and clothes, etc that's super noticeable if you don't just...use the natural wind sound from the day of

You're great at finding the off-beat and (sometimes) frankly bizarre, Vanegood. Thanks!

Dude I'm actually learning something tangential to that room thing AKA i can explain it!
Because every room (actually every THING) has certain frequencies of sound that it amplifies, so each room sounds unique.
Even with "silence, " there's still a little bit of sound, so you can hear the sound of that room.
That may not be the full explanation, but it's part of it.

Water actually does taste and it tastes like water. If someone ate chicken for the first time, would you expect them to say it tastes like anything other than chicken? How is this a debate?

If you live in a large urban area, the water generally tastes like fluoride salts, because that gets added to the water to prevent tooth decay. When we visited family in rural Iowa when I was a kid, I always thought the water tasted funny. Actually, it was missing the fluoride taste I was used to.

Pure water doesn't taste, but you've probably never drunk ultra-distilled water.
