AMD said that they will start releasing quick drivers for newly released games and big feature oriented drivers annually, similar to what Omega brought to the table. I am getting really excited about the newly restructured AMD. Seems like they are getting their shit together.

Wow, the difference between VSR and non-VSR was incredibly minute.

My 2nd PC with an R9 290X vapor-x 8GB is benefiting greatly from this, I use a 1080p 144 Hz display on that setup, so basically after using VSR, I m effectively gaming at 1440p while taking advantage of 144 Hz. One question, does higher frame buffer memory help performance when using DSR/VSR in a similar fashion as to when using higher resolution display?

Glad to hear amd is stepping up in the driver area. One more thing to level the playing field between them and nvidia. And better competition should bring down prices for nvidia.

fluid motion just does what current tv's do. fakes every other frame to simulate higher refresh rates...

I've been playing Far Cry 4 and on ultra setting on 1080p I get about 30 fps with drops to upper teens.  Very High I get 36 fps with drops to mid 20's.  On high I get about 48 with drops to mid 30's.  I tried the VSR just yesterday and I didn't see any improvement in graphics at 3200x1800 on my R9290X, but my fps doubled.  Now running it at 1800 on ultra my fps is locked at 60 fps with vsync on.  This is confusing the hell out of me, but i'll take it.

VSR has a limited functionality.  Mostly it's useful for capturing at a res above your display.  The downscaled result that is returned to your display is not a huge step up from the natural maximum res of your monitor with mild AA.

It IS a step up though.  Just brute forcing AA/definition through a sipmle downscaled render...just won't miss things that trip up other types of AA and how they play with engine pipelines.  It exists outside it.

I would say VSR does not have quite the performance hit one would suspect from such an approach, and makes it a viable alternative to most AA/aniso combinations, that can be quite costly and poorly implemented in some demanding modern titles.  I think both NVIDIA and AMD missed the mark in the way they pitched this bit of tech though, and people won't understand the actual benefits or appropriate usages.

It's cool.  It's not huge, but it could be.  I think that mostly speaks to Omega's release.  It's alot of little cool things of limited use at the moment, but could develop into much bigger things.

Excellent breakdown btw.
