AllSaints Leather Jacket Review | Flawed, But Still Worth It

Troy Barmore stops by the Stridewise studio (read: a WeWork in midtown) to review the hugely popular leather jacket brand AllSaints. They've got some more avant garde styles, but we wanted to get a minimalistic jacket with a broad appeal for just about any style, so we went with the hallowed cafe racer style: The Cora. There was an issue with a shoulder pad, but overall, Troy's keeping his. Would you?

This is the gold standard for reviews of clothing. It's all about the jacket, not the reviewer, no unnecessary hype or drama or attempts at humour, reviewer speaks clearly and in a coherent conversational, not preachy, way, not selling or pushing a sponsored product or supplier so objective and independent, covers things a buyer wants to know, plus reviewer's own opinion, adds in a few shots of the jacket in daylight outside not just studio shots. Lighting, sound and production very professional.
Great work!

Good job, Troy. I really like your style of discussing the piece about "what do you want the jacket to be." Great thought that many of us forget. Every item doesn't need to be EVERYTHING to EVERYONE. Kudos.

When I lived in NYC I happened into the All Saint's store in the West Village a couple times on the hunt for a better leather jacket. When I handled the jackets they just felt delicate. I think to a certain buyer they are going to perceive the jackets as "supple" or "comfortable" and it will be exactly what they want but to my hand it wasn't.

At that time I was in school and I was rocking a Lucky Brand cafe jacket in an equally thin and unimpressive goat skin. The All Saint's edged out the Lucky brand leather in quality certainly but was overall still thin and heavily corrected. The Lucky Brand I snagged on sale for 250 bucks, maybe less I can't exactly recall. The All Saints was definitely not big enough of an upgrade to justify at the time.

I held out two more years till after I graduated for a Schott and was happy to have spent the extra money on it.

Excellent review. I just bought the Cora in brown for $439, in black there was no offer, I am more than happy with it, it is a beautiful jacket and I love the double zipper.

I own the All Saints Cora jacket, and I am happy with it. It's a very slim fit, and as troy said, if you have anything extra around the mid area, it may not be the one for you. Extra value for me was getting the jacket on sale from Bloomingdales. They carry All Saints, and sometimes they have large discounts site wide. I tried it at the store, then waited for a sale, and ended up paying like $350. Still significant money, but far less than the current retail tag; I would say that's a more honest price for the Cora.

I have several all-saints leather jacket, s biker style ones and I've had them for years and love them. I do have a bunch of John varvatos jackets. I will say the all-saints one's seem better for winter in Canada, but the varvatos ones are definitely nicer, more delicate and unique.

You used to be able to buy Allsaints leather jackets for $300 to $450 years ago. That was well worth it.

This is the brand that changed the leather jacket world for me. They have the sexiest leather jackets. I own about 7 from them.

All saints runs sales very often. Curious if this could be had at a more competitive price point.

What does it mean not to last 10 years of hard wear? Is it the seams falling apart? Or the leather will rip? What happens when a leather jacket starts falling apart after years of hard wear, what are the first signs? thanks! (I don't ride a motorcycle so...I am not looking for anything like that.)

Hi guys, how tall are you and what US size are you wearing??

The main body lining is 100% cotton, the arms are recycled polyester.
In the uk this jacket is cheaper $523 vs USA’s $649, and with 10% or 20% off offer they occasionally do - makes it a great purchase!

Also, Crome tanned - done well - isn’t necessary bad, and AllSaints jackets do seem to last, so I’m inclined to say it’s done well. And this has a buttery soft and with a silky feel, making it comfortable to wear.

Finally, the YKK zips are nice and smooth, and with a bit of use the double zip is not an issue too.

Most are on Black Friday sale now. I bought 2 more on top of 3 I have. I think for me they’re worth the sale price.

Great review - I love Troy! I'm curious if you guys would consider reviewing the Gustin leather jacket - they have a full Chromexcel jacket which seems very high quality and made in America for under 800 dollars. It even has a one piece leather back, something which I don't see often. I'm curious what you guys think about Gustin as a brand as well - made in America clothing of what seems very high quality at price cheaper than anything comparable I can find.

Fantastic video, covering all areas with a refreshing, weighted and well-thought-out opinion.

Though I prefer companies that are more tried and tested designs and construction (such as Crockett & Jones or Barbour) over fashion brands, sometimes you find gems from fashion-orientated brands.

My black AllSaints Survey Double Layered blazer is incredibly well constructed and looks timeless, however it does have leather shiny leather segments the elbows and collar (deliberate as part of the design, and looks great). After watching your video I will keep an eye on these segments.
Alongside my AllSaints Oppose Boiled Wool Scarf, I can wear my either my AllSaints Survey blazer or my two Barbour jackets (Gold Standard Cainwel olive wool or Corbridge sylkoil waxed black jacket), any Levi 512's jeans, and my Crockett & Jones Chelsea 3 or Northcote boots. The combo is great.

My AllSaints Survey is the most I can afford for a sharp, fitted looking leather jacket, and spoke to me, so for me it's a great investment. This is an example of where a fashion brand can do good!

My next leather jackets (in the future) will likely be from one of these famous brands:
- Aero Leather Company (Scotland, UK)
- Wested Leather Co. (Kent, UK)
- Atelier Savas (Nashville, Tennessee, US)

Does your label on your jacket say cowhide? Mine says sheepskin. Even though online it also says the Cora leather jacket in black is cowhide. Awesome review btw
