Would it be any different than reading through a book as a group? I’m not really sold on the “game” aspect & would like to know how the mechanisms work. Does each individual get to make their own decisions and go their own way, or do they have to decide one path and always go through it together? It would be cool to see people split up and get caught up in different side quests.

The KOSMOS Adventure in a Box series has rendered this game obsolete. They're the perfect refinement of what T.I.M.E Stories tried, but without the annoying die rolls or loops. Story is not quite as good, but the puzzles are a heck of a lot better. The Choose Your Own Adventure series falls short in every category when stacked up against KOSMOS: story, art, components, engaging play time, and puzzles.

I loved these books when I was a kid. This is a pre-order-worthy game for me. I hope they release more stories from the series.

How did you understand the nostalgia for this, but not for 'Escape the Dark Castle'? This is virtually the same idea but not as random.

If you guys enjoyed this you should check out Destiny Quest books. They provide a pretty good choose your own adventure experience. There are at least 3 books that I'm aware of as of now. Thanks for the video!

cool, cool, but what differs it from the much cheaper books? is there something on the plus side?

Seems cool, and MM and CSI have it at $20 which I think is a great price for it, since "theoretically" you can play through it again unlike Exit or Unlock, and isn't as expensive as T.I.M.E Stories and expansions

i noticed the game said 1-99 players, is this not more of a solo type of game? how would higher counts work? do you just do choices based on majority rule?

I read so many of these when they first came out (when I was in 4th, 5th, and 6th grade) that I had to buy 40 of them off eBay a couple years ago as Christmas gifts for my kids. (I'm so happy they love these books too!)

There is also “Forest of Fate” and it has been fun with our group. Shorter game with a large variety of endings (not as many deaths probably...)

Picked this up at Target yesterday and my wife and I played through the whole thing last night. 2-2.5 hours definitely is right and we probably only saw 30-40% of the game. Really fantastic fun though.

I never did these books as a kid but the writing reminded me a lot of the old Sierra and Lucas Arts point and click adventure PC games. Just cheeky, zany fun!

This is effectively a solo game though that you can add more people to so I wouldn't really recommend it beyond 2p. Shared inventory and following one path of your choosing.

I know we'll go through it again at some point since we didnt get the best ending and there was a lot still to see. After that it's very easy to give to friends to play through as you don't destory anything.

I just picked this up today. It looks like fun. The reason the writing seems weak is because it's based on the children's book series. The fun will be in the playing, not reading the story.

If you’re looking for something to maybe wet your appetite until this comes out then check “Four Against Darkness” on Amazon. Haven’t actually played it yet but it looks to be a pretty good solo Dungeons and Dragons, choose your own adventure style game.
