RUSTIVAL 2 - September 2024

The Rustival 2 2024 show held at the British Motor Museum, Gaydon, and organised by a group of automotive Youtubers, had similarities to the "Anything Goes" car meet we attend every year, in that owners of classic cars, modern classics, youngtimers and basically any older car that someone feels enthusiastic about, are invited to take part and display their pride and joy at Rustival, regardless of whether it is a concours classic car, or a "barn find" survivor exhibiting every one of its years.
The first Rustival classic car show took place earlier in 2024, I didn't get to that one so the September 2024 Rustival (aka "Rustival 2") was my first time, I headed down in our '02 Jaguar as part of its extended testing programme (!) but wasn't displaying at this one.
The Rustival 2 show, held in the grounds surrounding the British Motor Museum on the 28th September 2024, was pretty large (especially for just the second outing of Rustival) and it was interesting to note just how many people there had Youtube channels and were video-ing proceedings, some channels quite large (for the classic car world), others recently opened.
The cars at this year's Rustival 2 were spread over a huge range of ages, including several pre-war cars which was good to see. Many cars I'd never clapped eyes on before, and there were more than enough cars of the age range I typically feature here on the Old Classic Car channel to make it a fun and interesting day out. As always, I try and feature a bit of everything at every classic car-related event I/we get to, including the more recent cars but focusing mainly on the older cars, say from the 1980s and before, of which there were plenty.
Hats off to everyone who put Rustival 2 together and made it happen.
If your car features, let me know in the comments which car you owned. If I missed yours, sorry! I've tried to include as many as I could, nearly 300 clips went into making this upload.
Likes and comments welcomed as always, and if you like watching this kind of content please consider subscribing (it doesn't cost anything) and remember to click the notifications bell at the same time.
Rustival 2025 (Rustival 3?) hasn't been confirmed as yet by hubnut/idriveaclassic/furious driving, but I think there's a good chance that it'll happen.
If you know of anyone else who might find these Old Classic Car videos of interest, please forward one of the above links to them.

I. Thankyou for your kind words about my pink and grey 1959 vauxhall cresta pa. It was allegedly destined for the scrap yard back in 2012 but was rescued and restored by the previous owner. I purchased it prior to covid and spent the covid years completing it to the condition it is today. Great video thankyou.

Thank you for giving my 1934 Standard ten a bit of the lime light. Its proved to be a very reliable little car. I drove 200 miles in it to attend the show. Its a shame there were only 5 pre 1939 cars, but great to see such a variety.

What a fun gathering! So many different and unusual cars that aren't normally at the "regular meets". I was becoming disappointed about not seeing a Renault 12 considering all the Citroens and Peugeots when suddenly there it was behind 2 massive Cibie Super Oscars that are probably worth more than the whole car. It was a rather rusty green? color, but it was there. The 1974 I owned tried to be a reliable car, but being a transition year for unleaded gas and EPA smog pumps in the US the exhaust valves burned on a regular basis. When the distributor fell apart hundreds of miles from home and no parts supply it was over. It was a very comfortable car though.

Thanks for covering the Scimitars. You were right on all fronts. The earthing issues are mostly negated as it sits on a sturdy steel chassis. I've had the yellow one since 2009 (at age 20, my friends thought I was nuts). It was used for commuting every day for years, and is still used for business quite regularly. It had a tasteful upgrade a few years ago when the engine was rebuilt as bizarrely it was cheaper than standard so it sits on the "sporty but still useable" point of the spectrum.

I noted and agreed wholeheartedly about the V70 turning circle, or lack of it, I ran one for 18 years and 371, 000 miles until rust caught up with it. A colleagues V70 cross country FWD had a much better turning circle. Your videos and also Harley's provide a lot of great viewing, keep it up.

Thank you for mentioning my Vanden Plas Princess 3 litre; as you say she is a very comfy old girl indeed and a great high-speed cruiser. My Honda Prelude is next to her, and despite only 20 years age difference they could not be more different!

Hi 👋 The Citroen cars were flying the French flag there. Alot of CV2s. I go regularly to a cafe here for breakfast. And in the shopping carpark near the cafe was a lovely old Citroen traction. So i had my phone with me to record it. Very nice condition too. Such a good mix of different types of cars there on show, the Skoda car are rare to see nowadays, they were assembled here in NZ in the 1960s / 70s. The police drive the new model Skodas now. Do the police use Skodas there where you are ? I like the old cars that i remember on the road when i was young and their sparkling chrome features. Thanks for your video Richard.

Thanks RIchard for another encylopeadic display by the master. Do you dream of cars? My wife used to have a Daf 44 which I attempted to service myself. Interestingly the engine had no oil filter, so regular oil changes (every 3 months) were the order of the day. Despite using top quality oil of the time including newly introduced expensive synthetic, the engine started to emit vast quantities of blue smoke, so not wishing to attempt providence, I opted for a car with an oil filter. Keep rockin'

Well, what can I say? First class coverage of this event. the car I would love to take home is the Vanden Plas 3Litre Princess, such stately and classy cars. the Vauxhall PA's are a very close second.
