Cave Development
Caves are magical places, full of amazing sights. The mineral deposits that adorn cave ceilings and walls are intricate and incredibly varied consisting of stalactites, stalagmites, curtains, frozen waterfalls, rimstone dams and, the most remarkable all of cave formations - helictites and every one of them has been sculptured by nothing more than water.
Caves themselves are also created by water - The tunnels, chambers, shafts and finely sculptured walls have all been carved out by flowing water .
So how do caves and their decorations come into existence?

Hi Keith, I'm a big fan and I love watching your videos. I live in Perth Western Australia and the caves here are nice but a bit to relaxed for my taste. Looking at the caves you have there in England and Wales and other places is just amazing, really I am so jealous especially for caves such as Darren cileua and sidcot swallet, goat church cavern and more. I was wondering when the planes are finally allowed to take us overseas I want to come over my daughter is English so will be good double holiday, she can visit her extended family while I check out some of the most awesome caves systems I've ever seen online! Do you do to tours?! If I were to want to do caves such as sidcot swallet is there a time of year when they are closed? And would you take me down there with your group? By the time I get to England in a year or two I will have much experience. Any advice? I assume I would just contact your caving club once I arrive in England or maybe even a couple weeks prior?

Hi Keith. two quick points - 400 mya was Devonian, so relevant to Devon caves but perhaps less so to the carboniferous limestones of Mendip and the rest of the country? And the limestones of Assynt etc are Cambrian. Also, it is a bit of s stretch to say the World was almost all ocean - it looks that way on your animation, but the continental cores were clustered so the other side of the globe would look a bit different.
best. Don
