'Russia has the capability to topple Kiev's government,' former MI6 chief Sir John Sawers says

FRANCE 24 spoke to Sir John Sawers, the former head of Britain’s secret intelligence service. Sawers, who headed the MI6 between 2009 and 2014, said that if Russia’s President Vladimir Putin decides to take military action against Ukraine, it would be in his interest to limit an invasion to eastern Ukraine. But, he cautioned: “There is no doubt that Russia has the capability to carry out a full invasion, take over Kiev, and install a puppet regime.”

Ukraine is a divided country just like Belgium. The best thing that Ukraine can do is to stay neutral and act as a buffer zone between EU and Russia. However, the Ukraine elite class is pro the West and those who is pro Russia was not given a fair chance. It looks like Ukraine will be another Yugoslavia if the elite class doesn't want to compromise.

In this whole equation, if I were Sir John, one country that I would never mention would be Afghanistan, that expelled the British first, then the Soviets, and finally the Americans, with empty hands. I don't think Afghanistan is in any way like Ukraine where the Russians would be welcomed by sections of the population.
