Doctors treating seven-times Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher for brain injuries sustained in a skiing accident have said his condition is improving following a second operation.

Schumacher sustained serious brain injuries after his head smashed into a rock while skiing in the French resort of Meribel on Sunday.

According to Reuters, doctors said "his condition had stabilized enough by late Monday to carry out a new operation to treat the effects of internal bleeding within Schumacher's skull."

"Emmanuel Gay, head of the hospital's neurosurgery service, said the operation carried out around 10.00 pm (2100 GMT) on Monday had successfully removed a large hematoma - the medical term for a build-up of blood - from his brain.

"It was larger and more accessible (than others) ... We judged we could remove it without taking any risks," Gay said.
"He said the operation was designed to reduce, within Schumacher's skull, the pressure on the brain.

"Doctors said the fact that the retired motor racing champion was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident had at least enabled him to make it to the hospital alive."

They added that although Schumacher's condition had stabilized following the operations it was still too early to speculate on whether he will recover.

This animation explains the cause of a subdural hematoma and the surgical procedure required to treat it.

Supposition, this is all, yes, we would hope he makes some sort of recovery, but, it been a few years now, so, if it’s not happened now, it may never happen, sad, but true, I’m only trying to be pragmatic about it....🤔😎😕

I really hope to see Michael in good health again but at same time it make me question why that skeing helmet failed to protect his head?

So I don't want to sound disrespectful but I want to be honest here. What is the long-term impact of his incident? The media keep saying he "isn't the same" in what way? Am I right in thinking Michael effectively is now (psychologically) around 10 years old?
