Показать описание
The M16 Multiple Gun Motor Carriage, a key U.S. military vehicle during World War II, featured a quad-mount of four .50 caliber M2 Browning machine guns on a half-track chassis. Nicknamed the 'Meat Chopper,' it was designed for anti-aircraft purposes but also became highly effective against ground targets, including infantry and lightly armored vehicles. Produced between 1943 and 1944, the M16 saw action in various theaters, including Europe and the Pacific.

It is crazy and kind of horrific to think they shot this at hordes of dudes so often and brutally it got that nickname.

Awesome video. I would love to be a armoured vehicle historian as a career

In Viet Nam we had 2&1/2 and 5 ton trucks that were reinforced and had 50 cals. on them and used as convoy escorts. They were, shall we say, effective.

I love these half tracks. I recommend Hunnicutt's "Half Tracks" and Moran's "Can Openers" for more detailed info.

The M45 pulled it's weight in Vietnam. A # of M548s, along w/ 21/2-5 ton trucks carried it.

Though practically the same, the vehicle shown is an M16A1. built on an M3 halftrack chassis, without folding side plates and cutouts for maximum depression of the guns (the M45 mount sits higher in the M16A1 version). They saw service in the Korean war.

The troopers of the Wehrmacht absolutely hated the Quad .50 M16.

Meat chopper is far too descriptive a name.

The company that produces the M134 minigun, Dillon Aero, mounted four M134s on this mount and it sounds and looks devastating

"chinese human wave attack" is a horrific sentence lmao, but something 4 .50 cal MGs would be understandably suited to combatting, jesus...

I was about to observe, by the time the M16 came out not only was four .50cals on a truck not going to be effective against an air attack, but the Luftwaffe was practically a husk, or at keast rapidly approaching that point.

Meanwhile, four .50cals is going to chew thru wave tactics, & keep infantry generally ineffective without anti-vehicle weaponry.

My friend's dad served on one of these in France during WW2 and when they ran low on food, they went duck hunting with it

“About” 2877. Snicker.
My Dude, about would be “less than 3000 where made”, or “about 2800 where made”.
2877 is a very exact number.
