Ancient African Boxing

From deep in the jungles of Africa comes an ancient martial art that will blow your mind:

More than a thousand years old, it’s a style of boxing with a few nasty twists…

The dominant hand is wrapped in tightly knotted cord, and in the past they were coated with sticky resin and bits of broken glass.

The weak hand is left bare but the lead leg is often wrapped in chain, used to both block and kick.

Each fight has three rounds, each ending only by stoppage or knockdown.

Originating with the Hausa people of west Africa, it is known as ‘Dambe’….

Traditional boxers have some of the BEST strength and conditioning routines in history.

All over the world normal people are leaving traditional gym routines behind to train like historic fighters and ancient athletes.

Fools in the comment section don't realize that the hand wrap is as hard and heavy as a mallet. Its a weapon not a glove.

Wouldn't say most insane form of boxing on earth when u have burmese leithwei, u can literally revive a koed opponent to see if he can continue. Honorable mentions headbutts are allowed as well.

While I am aware of the Kemetic origins of martial arts, When I think about the martial arts culture in china it’s very institutional, systematic & structural with a rich literature which supports the growth & sustainability of the martial arts culture they demonstrate. It also seems as if martial proficiency as a society was more important in china than in specific cultures in Africa that also practice martial arts. It’s even common for Chinese women to be proficient in martial arts. Overall from the outside looking in, it appears the Chinese society values martial arts more than African societies. The Chinese also took the foundational essence of Kemetic martial arts & continued to refine & evolve them while simultaneously documenting their works. I think a solution to more cultural awareness for African martial arts is more schools that teach the TRUE origins of martial arts, African martial arts & other martial arts from around the world that are also important styles to learn & incorporate into ones martial database
