I'm so excited to see this. I hope it makes money because no one is talking about it, and I really don't want it to get buried in other movies

Perri, I recently saw the film as well and full stop I have to agree! My favorite movie this year!

An amazing show of emotional tension through character and historical accuracy. A film with the intent and gravitas of Dunkirk but with completely different style and execution. But IMHO, it's a deep peace that creates greater conversations. The people I saw it with, couldn't stop discussing for hours the relevance, the accuracy, and portroyal of the event. Any success it receives is earned. Interested to see if there are claims of racism against it when I felt that a lot of police were shown to be well... good.

What most people don't know, that there were 159 race riots that same summer, for different reasons, Detroit was just one of them, my mother grew up in Detroit, but from 1959 to 69 lived in Newark NJ, were the other riot took place in 1967. I was seven at the time and remember the tanks coming down our street.

Kathryn Bigelow is such an amazing director... it helps that she's like 65 but looks 45. She knows how to make a great film as well but she's really goog at getting her actors to show up with their A game

Great review, Perri. Really well done. I love hearing passion, enthusiasm, and sincerity in a film review. It matters very much to "give a shit" about cinema. Particularly on the internet. I was lukewarm on the trailer (despite the high esteem I have for Bigelow's work) but now it looks like maybe this is something I should certainly at least give a chance.

Excellent, Laser-Focused, Incisive Movie Review, Perri. I have to say that really appreciate a traditional review about film the remains within the boundaries of reviewing art, rather injecting extraneous social commentary. Nuff Said. Thank you very much for this review - I'm gonna to go see it.

I think the next movie they should do after this one is the 1993 LA Race Riot. I think that needs to have a movie treatment.

Very good movie, I did feel like the movie was a little too anti-police. That said, I went in to the movie with an open mind, realizing it's about the true story of the 1967 Detroit riots, and I was able to view it from the other side of the spectrum. It doesn't change my view about police, but I still give this movie a 9.25/10. One of the best movies of the year for sure

Why do you think Bigelow kept her name off the trailer? Do you think she thought people wouldn't see it if they knew it was directed by a woman?

If it's good enough, I don't see why it won't get award attention. Hurt Locker came out this same time of year.

Why watch Detroit when you can watch the citizen kane of animated films:The emoji movie!

We need more movies like this. American history is flawed and corrupted, and movies like this is a testament to what black people go through daily in America.

Don't forget it's based on a true story. Everything in this story the real story is based on the biased of both sides.

Apparently many minority reviewers are finding it offensive/insensitive. I'm interested to watch it for myself now after hearing conflicting views
